It is often hard to put into words what we feel — and behind "I'm fine" or "I feel bad" there can be many different feelings.

The én|kép visual emotion cards help to recognise, name and share these feelings. They work with words and images at the same time.

Word and image together

Each of the 124 cards carries the name of a feeling or bodily sensation, and a paint blot we painted by hand and then digitised. The word helps with naming. The blot speaks to the pre-verbal, visual experience. It is often easier to point to a shape or a colour than to put a difficult experience into words.

Nine emotion cards — playful, excited, uncertain, optimistic, raging, nauseous, content, burdened, oppressed — each with a painted blot

The deck is built on seven basic emotion groups:

  • joy
  • surprise
  • boredom
  • fear
  • anger
  • disgust
  • sadness

A marker on the edge of each card shows its group, so the deck can be sorted in moments.

Try it

Draw a card.

The same feeling starts a completely different conversation next to the "I haven't felt this in a long time" card than next to "I find it hard to allow myself this".

joy

optimistic

I haven't felt this in a long time

Supplementary cards

A frame around the feeling.

The 14 supplementary cards give a frame to the chosen feeling. They belong to five themes:

  1. Timewhen is the feeling present?
  2. Understandinghow well do I know it?
  3. My relationship to the feelinghow do I handle it?
  4. Bodywhere does it appear in me?
  5. Connectionhow do we connect to each other's feelings?
Three supplementary cards ("this is what I feel right now", "I'm afraid of this feeling", "this is what I see in you") and three emotion cards

Who is it for?

“How am I arriving today?”

For one-to-one work

Psychological counselling, supportive mental-health conversations, coaching. Use it as a warm-up ("How am I arriving today?"), to work through a particular topic, or as the main focus of a session.

For group work

Trainings, classrooms, therapeutic and mental-health groups. It broadens emotional vocabulary and strengthens group cohesion and members' understanding of one another.

The guide

The deck comes with a detailed guide. It offers a short professional introduction to emotions, presents basic and deeper levels of use, and contains 16 tried-and-tested exercises, for example:

  • „The story behind the blot”
  • „The Body Map of Feelings”
  • „Timeline of feelings”

It closes with a question bank and further reading.

The cards are tools for self-discovery and support, not diagnostic or measurement instruments.
