Creative exercises that support mental health — through the cycle of the year
About the book
These three words could just as well be the book's keywords. Starting from our own feelings and thoughts — that is, from the "self" — it is in the process of creation that we can experience an alternative practice of self-care. Although our relationships and decisions begin within ourselves, in the noise of everyday demands and the outside world it is often our own inner resources that run dry first. Through the process of drawing, painting and making collages, this book invites you to find space and an opportunity to understand your feelings and life events, and so to reach a deeper self-reflection.
Building on the natural cycle of the year and drawing on nature's colours, symbols and changes, the book guides you through exercises grounded in a mental-health approach that help to uncover and integrate implicit content that is hard to reach in words. Here creation is not the goal but the medium: a space where inner experiences can be reorganised.
Who is it for?
For helping professionals and educators, for whom the structured exercises, laid out month by month, offer a ready tool for individual and group processes (in counselling, mental-health support, psychological or pedagogical work).
For those on a path of self-discovery, who want to attend more consciously to their inner processes and are looking for a creative way to know themselves more deeply.
